The Samsung Galaxy S22 has finally started its pre-order in Malaysia after months of anticipation. The “Galaxy Note” returns in the shape of the Galaxy S22 Ultra for aficionados of the S Pen. Here are the things you need to know about the latest Samsung Galaxy S22 series in Malaysia.
Galaxy S22 Ultra is the new Note
Last year, fans of the S Pen were let down by the lack of new Note models following the Galaxy Note 20 series. To replace the void, Samsung tried to merge the S Pen experience into the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 3, but nothing compares to a real Galaxy Note smartphone with a built-in S Pen.
The new top-of-the-line Galaxy S22 Ultra is the first Galaxy S device with an S Pen that you can store in its dedicated silo. In addition, they have made the stylus better with even lower latency from 9ms to 2.8ms for a more natural feel. They have also improved the AI-assisted prediction technology which lets you draw more accurately. Even in terms of design, the S22 Ultra looks more like a Galaxy Note than your typical Galaxy S series.
Malaysia’s Galaxy S22 series is powered by a Snapdragon chip
If you’re seeking a Snapdragon-powered Samsung flagship, you’ll be pleased to learn that the Samsung Galaxy S22 series for Malaysia and Southeast Asia uses the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 chip rather than the Exynos 2200. Both the Snapdragon and Exynos alternatives based on 4 nm have identical CPUs, but they differ in the graphics section. The Adreno 730 GPU is used in the Snapdragon processor.
Samsung’s Exynos 2200 processor, which employs AMD’s RDNA2 architecture as its backbone, offers console-quality gameplay. The Xclipse GPU supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and variable-rate shading, both of which are common on PCs, laptops, and game consoles. The Galaxy S22 with Exynos 2200 processor is currently only available in a few areas, including Europe and the United Kingdom.
Samsung Galaxy S22 is smaller than iPhone 13
While the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ may appear to be identical to the Galaxy S21, Samsung has lowered the screen sizes of both the S22 and S22+ by 0.1 inches. The Galaxy S22 now has a 6.1-inch display, while the S22+ now has a 6.6-inch display. The Galaxy S22 is now slightly shorter and narrower than the 6.1′′ iPhone 13 thanks to its smaller bezels. It is, however, only 0.1mm thicker than the iPhone 13 at 7.6mm.
The batteries are smaller
The battery capacity of both the S22 and S22+ has been lowered from their predecessors, as one would anticipate with smaller phones. The standard S22 now has a 3,750mAh battery, which is 250mAh less than the Galaxy S21, and the S22+ has a 4,500mAh battery, which is 300mAh less than the Galaxy S21+. Despite the lower capacity, the more efficient 4nm CPU should give more than acceptable battery life.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra’s battery capacity is the same as the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s, at 5,000mAh. Given that this is a Note replacement, it’s fantastic that Samsung didn’t sacrifice battery capacity in order to include an S Pen.
The best Display in Samsung
On the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung’s Dynamic AMOLED 2X screens now have a peak brightness of 1750 nits and a contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1. That’s greater than the peak brightness of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which is now one of the best in the industry at 1500nits. The gadget also includes a Vision Booster function that considers the effects of ambient lighting on the display and makes required adjustments to provide better sight with less glare in direct sunshine.
However, the peak brightness of 1750 nits is only available on the 6.6′′ S22+ and 6.8′′ S22 Ultra. The 6.1′′ S22’s peak brightness is 1300 nits, which is lower than the 6.1′′ S22’s. In Game Mode, all three models in the series offer a refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz. Both the S22 and S22+ have a Full HD+ (23401080 pixels) resolution, while the S22 Ultra has a Quad HD+ (30801440 pixels) resolution.
The S22 series features a newer Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ for greater screen durability on both the front and back. That also suggests that, unlike the previous Galaxy S21, the basic S22 will not have a plastic back.
Low light photography with Nightography
The Galaxy S22 and S22+ now come with a triple-camera system that includes a higher-resolution 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The S22 Ultra, on the other hand, boasts a quad-camera arrangement with a 108MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and another 10MP telephoto camera with a periscope module that enables 10x optical zoom. Optical image stabilisation is standard on all primary and telephoto cameras.
This series’ most notable feature is its “Nightography” mode, which lets you to record better low-light photographs while keeping the colours intact. Larger picture sensors and adaptive pixel technology make this possible. The phone features multi-frame processing with Night Solution, which records many images and then uses AI to blend the best frames without noise or blur to provide a single crisp low-light shot. Not just for the primary camera, but also for portrait mode, the telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and the front camera for selfies, the Night Solution function is available.
5 years of security updates, 4 major Android OS upgrades
When it comes to software and security support, Samsung is stepping up its game. For the Galaxy S22 and other recent models, Samsung has committed to offering five years of security updates and four major Android OS upgrades. This is fantastic news for consumers who want to keep their phones for a long time, and it’s even better than the Google Pixel 6, which only gets three major Android OS updates. The Galaxy S22 starts with Android 12 and One UI 4.1, which suggests that these phones might be updated to Android 16 in the future.
power adapter sold separately
The charger, like any other Samsung flagship product, is no longer supplied as part of the company’s attempts to go green. The Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra support 45W fast charging over USB-C, but the Galaxy S22 only supports 25W. The official Samsung 45W power adaptor costs RM199, however you may certainly find more reasonable third-party USB-PD adapters. If you don’t want to deal with cords, the Galaxy S22 series also has 15W wireless charging.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 1TB not available in Malaysia for now
The Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with up to 1TB of storage for demanding users. In Malaysia, however, the S22 Ultra is only available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage capacities. It’s unclear whether Samsung will release the 1TB version.
