Currently, we are moving from 4G to 5G, and did you know what the 5G really is? So basically, 5G is the latest generation of mobile networking. The network generation will change along with changes in the system. First of all, let’s have a look at the improvements that we have made since the 1980s.
All type of network history
Years the introduction of
1G = 1980s
2G = 1991
3G = 2001
4G = 2009
5G = 2019
The network connection is the most important thing in our life. A lot of things we can do with the internet connection and sometimes it might be a necessity in life.
1G Network
1G is the first network connection. Therefore, 1G also means the first generation of network connections. It was released in the 1980s. At the early stage, the network connection is solely for communication purposes. So, it is limited to analog telecommunication standards.
2G Network
2G is also known as the second generation of network connections. It is a slight upgrade from the 1G network. Even though 2G and 1G are using the same networking system from the radio tower transmission. But, it still has differences. 2G were entirely for digital signaling only and 1G is applicable for analog telecommunications. The only device that uses this system is just cellular networks. This system gives the advantage of text messages, sending pictures, and phone calls.
3G Network
3G is the third generation of network connection, it is also an upgrade of 2G and 1G. The power of 3G to transfer the data is faster than 2G. it also has advantages like video calls and internet access. The feature services like internet access cannot be done by 2G. The 3G is the first generation that provides an internet connection.
4G Network
4G is the fourth generation of network service. This service has been released in 2009. Moreover, 4G is offering a speed 10 times faster than 3G for making a better standard of a network. Apart from that, the difference between 3G, 2G, and 4G is the device to operate it. 2G and 3G only use a cellular phone, while 4G provides the most advanced device to date, which is the smartphone.
5G Network
5G is the fifth generation of networking. This service is released in 2019 and this is the current network generation that we use for our life. But, not quite common in Malaysia. This network connection can be connected with almost everything just like Machine, Television, and more. 5G also is a unified, more capable air interface. So, 5G also are trying to make better transportation, remote health care, precision agriculture, digitalized logistic,s and more.
Are we going into a 5G Network system?
All sectors of the economy are expected to have benefited from 5G which also creates a new ecosystem in delivering the 4th Industrial Revolution (IR4.0), digital transformation, cloud services & the Internet of Things. Malaysia is trying to achieve this through the national development plan. Other than that, 3G will be shutting down on 31 December 2021 to upgrade the 5G facilities. The facility will be in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and Kuala Lumpur.
