Apple just issued emergency software updates “iPhone iOS 14.8” on Monday 13 September 2021 for a critical vulnerability in its products. The announcement made after the security researchers uncovered a flaw that allows highly invasive spyware from Israel’s NSO Group. The spyware has infect all kind of Apple products without so much as a click.
The discovery of the spyware means that more than 1.65 billion Apple products in use worldwide have been vulnerable to NSO’s spyware since at least March. Because the software is sophisticated, it’s hard to know whose devices had been compromised. It is critical to update your iPhone and other Apple devices such as iPads, Mac and Apple Watch with the new iOS 14.8 as soon as possible.
What did the spyware do?
The Pegasus spyware used a novel method to invisibly infect Apple devices without victims’ knowledge. It is also known as a “zero click remote exploit”. Considered as the Holy Grail of surveillance, it allows anyone to secretly break into someone’s device without tipping the victim off. Pegasus can turn on a user’s camera and microphone, record messages, texts, emails, calls as well as those sent via encrypted messaging and send them back to NSO’s clients at governments around the world.
Why the need to update new iOS?
Apple’s head of security engineering and architecture urged Apple customers to run the latest software updates to closes the flaw, which had let highly invasive spyware, by installing iOS 14.8, MacOS 11.6 and WatchOS 7.6.2. Make sure your iPhone is plugged in or has at least 50 percent battery life before updating to iOS 14.8. Then, Go to Settings – Click General – Click Software Update – Click Install Now to update to iOS 14.8.
