When Realme released the Realme Pad in Malaysia in November of last year, it was exciting! It is a decent starting-level tablet for those looking for a cheap and cheerful Android tablet. Anyone interested in Realme Pad should be aware that it will not be updated to Android 12.
Forum Administrator announcement
This information was revealed as a result of a recent community post on the Realme India forums. Administrator Aayushii responded to several frequently asked queries. One of them asked if the Realme Pad will receive an Android 12 upgrade, to which Aayushii answered that it would not. Realme will continue to deliver security and performance upgrades throughout its software lifespan, he adds. Realme’s Android devices have a two-year lifetime for security upgrades. Therefore, Realme Pad users may anticipate them until late 2023.
Unfortunately, Aayushii didn’t go into detail about why the Realme Pad won’t be getting Android 12. If we were to make an assumption, it may be owing to the Realme Pad’s MediaTek Helio G80 chipset. The Helio G80 has been on the market since February 2020, therefore it is no longer cutting edge. In comparison to smartphones with Snapdragon chips, MediaTek chips have a reputation for being difficult for manufacturers to update. resulting in late OS upgrades. Xiaomi chief Li Ming has previously stated that MediaTek takes a long time to develop Android upgrades for its hardware partners.
For Realme, the lack of an upgrade path to Android 12 will undoubtedly detract from what is otherwise a reasonably priced bundle. Starting at RM899, you can purchase a 10.4-inch WUXGA+ LCD display with Dolby Atmos and a quad-speaker configuration. Meanwhile, the Helio G80 chipset supports up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There’s also a big 7,100mAh battery with 18W quick charging that Realme promises will last up to 12 hours of screening time.
It’s a shame that the Realme Pad will remain on Android 11 for the foreseeable future. Because Google is planning a special feature update for Android 12 called Android 12L. Android 12L is developing with large-screen devices in mind, such as tablets. New features are including two-column notification shades and simpler split-screen multitasking. If you’re intending to purchase the Realme Pad, you should take Aayushii’s announcement into consideration.
